20 years of Black Hairstyle Portaits

Getting ready for the opening of BAD Hair Uprooted

It's amazing to see my exhibition coming together. It took a lot of courage to hit the streets of New York, go to areas literally out of my comfort zone, to interview non-Black individuals about Black hair.

I am almost a master in framing photos now.

Docu in the making

For those of you who don't know or understand; I flipped the script to spread awareness that Black people never had the right to wear their God-given tresses natural. Our natural hairstyles like Dreadlocks, Box Braids and Cornrows are only mentioned in the dress code policies to exclude them. Asking the questions: Would you alter your hair for a job and why do you think it is a requirement for Black people, opened up some great conversations! This is the very early stage of my documentary and you are invited to see a compilation on Thursday Oct 10.

Choosing photos out of thousands of natural hairstyle portraits to make a selection for the exhibition was super hard. That is why I am also working on a book to feature not only people's hairstyles but also natual stylists and photos from the hair shows.

The best thing about it; It is great to catch up with people. If you lived in Brooklyn or visited summer festivals between 2003 and now, there is a change I took your picture.

Now I need to choose between these 2 covers. Help me choose and let me know which one you prefer.

 Show time!

Then there are the beautiful models who always showcase What Naturals Love Fashion so well. This time we got Kerry, a TikTok sensation who you may already know as he shared his Locs Journey with us.

So, I hope this preview is enough to RSVP for the BAD Hair Uprooted Exhibition if you have not already done so. Time for me to go back to work. Looking forward seeing you Thursday!
