If you're looking for a practical way to style your locs that also looks good, especially in hot weather, a loc bun is the perfect solution. Five years into my loc journey, I mastered this locs style and I can assure you that creating a loc bun is incredibly quick and easy, even without using pins or extensions.
Your hair doesn't even need to be that long. At this point, my hair is shoulder length and you can also do this with loc extensions or box braids. Here’s a step-by-step guide to achieving this chic look in less than two minutes.
Step 1: Prepare Your Locs
Before styling, it’s essential to ensure your hair is clean and your scalp is well taken care of. Here’s how I prep my locs:
- Clean Your Locs with the Loc Glove: The Loc Glove is a fantastic tool for maintaining clean locs. It gently removes any build-up and refreshes your hair, making it ready for styling.
- Scalp Care with the Scalp Roller: Treat your scalp to a good massage using a scalp roller. This not only feels great but also promotes blood circulation and ensures your scalp is in the best condition.

Step 2: Create the Loc Bun
Now that your locs are clean and your scalp is prepped, it’s time to create the bun. Follow these simple steps:
- Gather your locs loosely on each side of your head and bring them to the back of your head to create a simple knot.
- Tighten the knot, make sure it's not tight, make sure there is no pressure on the sides. This will be the base of your bun.
- Now for the magic: gather the remaining locs underneath the knot then tuck them over into the space of knot.
- Voila! Your beautiful, fuss-free bun is complete!
