Damaged locs - Why I Stopped Using ACV and Switched to Loc Bombs

ACV Ruined My Locs: Why I Stopped Using Apple Cider Vinegar Rinses and Switched to Loc Bombs

ACV Ruined My Locs: Why I Stopped Using Apple Cider Vinegar Rinses and Switched to Loc Bombs

When you start your loc journey, everyone seems to recommend an apple cider vinegar (ACV) rinse. Social media is filled with videos showing cloudy water and claiming that ACV is the secret to clean, healthy locs. But for some people, the results are devastating.

Recently, a post in a microlocs group on meta caught my attention. The photo showed piles of hair that had broken off after using an ACV shampoo treatment. The woman who shared it was heartbroken. As a loctician who prides herself on healthy hair, she never imagined that one product could cause so much damage.

ACV Damage on Locs

Her story immediately brought back memories of my own experience.

My Hair Was Damaged by ACV Too

I tried ACV treatments because everyone said they were necessary to remove buildup. Instead of healthier hair, I ended up with dryness and damage. Never again.

Apple cider vinegar is acidic. While it can remove buildup, it can also strip your locs of moisture if used too often or in concentrations that are too strong. Locs are already more vulnerable to dryness because natural oils have a harder time traveling down the hair shaft. Once your hair becomes too dry, breakage can follow.

Not everyone will have the same experience, but after what happened to my own hair, I started looking for better and gentler alternatives.

Why I Switched to Loc Bombs

What finally worked for me was combining my Loc Bombs with the WNL Hair Serum.

Unlike harsh ACV treatments, the Loc Bombs are completely natural infused with Epsom salt, which helps draw out dirt, excess oil, and buildup without leaving my hair feeling stripped and brittle. After soaking, my locs feel clean, soft, and refreshed. I even use it as a shampoo bar now now by rubbing a bomb on my wet locs.

The best part? My hair no longer feels like straw afterward.

Benefits of Loc Bombs:

  • Help remove buildup and impurities.
  • Leave locs feeling soft and moisturized.
  • Easy to use at home.
  • Gentler alternative to frequent ACV rinses.
  • Perfect for maintaining healthy locs between appointments.

The WNL Hair Serum keeps my scalp and hair hydrated with healthy elasticity so my locs don't break. Just make sure to use it on dry locs.

The Secret Weapon: WNL Hair Serum

Cleaning your locs is only half the battle. Hydration is just as important.

That is why I also use the WNL Hair Serum. I apply it directly to my scalp when my hair is completely dry. The roller makes it easy to target the scalp, helping to nourish and hydrate from the inside out.

Together, the Loc Bombs and Hair Serum helped restore my hair after the damage I experienced from ACV.

Every Head of Hair Is Different

One person's experience does not mean ACV will damage everyone's locs. But it does show that "natural" does not automatically mean "safe" for every hair type.

If your locs suddenly feel dry, brittle, or weak after an ACV rinse, listen to your hair. Healthy locs should not require treatments that leave you worried about breakage.
