How long ago did you start them? Comb coils take the longest time to loc. If you start your locs with Braids, Sisterlocks, Interlocking or instant locing, swimming would not be a problem but comb oils are very likely to unravel in the first 3 months because the hair hasn't locked together yet.
It takes time for hair to matt but Braids, interlocking and sisterlock rotations keep the hair together even if the hair is not matted yet. With comb coils the hair is twisted around its coils but there is no stich like with braids or interlocking that keeps comb coils together. I hope this answers your quesion.
