Would you Alter your Hair for a Job? Challenge for BAD Hair Uprooted

Would you Alter your Hair for a Job? - Join the Challenge!

Would you alter your hair for a job? If you're a creator up for a challenge, I have 5 important Black hair questions I want you to ask non-Black people.

Why This Challenge?

Before I share the questions, let me explain why I do this challenge. Black people are the only people on this planet who don’t have the human right to wear their God-given tresses naturally, and this has got to change. The goal of this challenge is to spread awareness, as too few people realize the magnitude of this issue.

Why Join the Challenge?

You have the chance to be featured in my experimental documentary, which will premiere at the opening of my exhibition BAD Hair Uprooted, the Untold History of Black Follicles, on October 10th at Restoration Plaza in Brooklyn.

Everyone Can Join!

Just so you know, this challenge isn’t just for Black content creators. In fact, I’d especially love for White content creators to join. Your participation can make a real impact!

The Questions

Here are the 5 main questions to ask, but please download the full script for a deeper understanding.

  1. Can you name a few Black hairstyles?
  2. Are these styles allowed at your workplace or where you go to school/university?
  3. Are you aware that these styles are not allowed in many workplaces, schools, and institutions?
  4. If the script was flipped: Would you alter your hair for a job? (Imagine this scenario: Your qualifications are excellent, but your hairstyle doesn’t meet the standard of our hair policy. You would only get the job if you’d get an Afro, Dreadlocks, Bantu Knots, or Cornrows.)
  5. Why do you think this is a requirement for Black people?
