Sisterlocks are a beautiful hairstyle, but let's be honest, sticker shock is real! This blog is here to shed light on the costs associated with starting and maintaining your Sisterlocks journey, so you can make an informed decision whether you want to install them or not.

The Price Tag; Why are Sisterlocs so expensive?

Unlike traditional locs, Sisterlocks require a specialized technique and certified consultants. This ensures consistent results, minimal damage to your hair, and a style that thrives over time. The initial installation is a multi-hour process, in many cases even days, meticulously creating each loc for optimal growth and longevity.

Breaking Down the Costs of Sisterlocks

Here's what typically factors into the price:

  • Consultation: A Sisterlocks Consultant will take a look at your hair, the density and its curl pattern to decide what rotation would be the best for your hair texture. This initial meeting allows you and your consultant to discuss your hair goals, desired lock size, and answer any questions. Consultation fees can range from $30 to $95.
  • Installation: This is the big one. Prices can vary depending on your location, hair length, density and desired number of locs. On average, expect to pay between $500 and $900+ for the initial installation. Some consultants may charge by the hour, while others offer package deals.
  • Re-tightening: New growth needs attention! Re-tightening sessions, typically needed 4-6 times a year, ensure your locs maintain their integrity and prevent unraveling. These can range from $150 to $300 per session. The more locs you have, the more time the retightening takes so the more it will cost.

Location, Location, Location

Just like anything else, prices can fluctuate depending on where you live. Big cities often have higher costs compared to rural areas. Do your research and compare prices from certified consultants in your area.

Beyond the Dollar Signs

While the initial investment might seem daunting, consider the long-term value. Sisterlocks are low-maintenance, requiring minimal styling and products. For many, their hair has never grown that long so it may be worth it in the long run.
