How She Kept Lint out of her 20 Inch 12-Year-Old Locs

Jessica Ausonatural Davis, a Sisterlocks consultant wrote the following post in the facebook group ‘Sisterlocked and Loving it’:

My beautiful client, has had Sisterlocks for 12 years. 20in and today she decides to chop and retighten😱🥳🔥💜 in a few months I will lighten her and deposit her favorite color for her bday.

Her client’s 12-year-old locs needed to be trimmed because they were getting heavy. Since heavy locs can cause traction which can weaken locs and have them break, the client wanted a trim. It took a little courage to trim her beautiful Sisterlocks but better be safe than sorry. Once your locs start to feel heavy, it’s better to cut them than to wait and see because once locs starting to weaken, it may be too late.

The photos and videos Jessica posted got a lot of oohs and aahs. Not only did the locks look super beautiful and lusciously long, the Sisterlocks were also remarkable clean, meaning lint-free. So, naturally the group members asked, how did you keep your locs lint-free for 12-years? Here are the tips she shared. Most of us already know them but it never hurts to reiterate them.

  1. Invest in a Pure Silk Pillowcase for Better Hair, Skin, and Sleep

Investing in a silk pillowcase is essential if you are serious about locing and want to grow lint-free locs. Silk is not just luxurious and soft to lie on. Besides the comfort, its smooth surface will allow your locs and skin to glide on the fabric, reducing friction and allow your hair to be. Most important of all is that the fabric doesn’t shed so it won’t leave your hair with lint.

Real silk is also breathable which is an extra benefit especially for those who sweat a lot. Another great plus is that sleeping on a silk pillowcase will also allow the skin of your face to breathe and leave it smoother than any other fabric you’ll sleep on.

A good quality silk pillowcase is truly a great investment because they last for years.

  1. Get a bonnet

You may think that if you already have a silk pillow case you don’t’ need a bonnet. Well, you do. The bonnet doesn’t have to be silk but you need it for covering your locs when you don’t sleep. When you are sweeping for instance, wearing a bonnet makes sure that dust doesn’t settle in your locs.

I also recommend wearing a bonnet when you are cooking. Locs, hair in general, absorbs scents like clothing. The only difference is that it’s harder to get the food smelling scents out of your locs. For some reason, locs hold on to lint and scents much longer.

  1. Get a Lint Free Towel

You should know that regular cotton towels easily can leave lint in your locs. Plenty of use good old t-shirts to dry our hair but that is really not necessary anymore. Our towels are not only lint-free, they are anti-static and absorb 5 times their weight in water.

They are super thin but don’t let the thinness fool you. This is super high-quality microfiber that has even beach-sand sliding of it and they dry instantly.

The What Naturals Love Microfiber Towels come in different sizes so even if you start with locs and don’t need a huge towel you can get one of these super absorbent towels. Like a silk pillowcase it is an investment that you can use for years to come.

So, you can just jump into the pool or the sea without even thinking about dripping wet your locs. Wrapping your hair in one of our Microfiber Towels will absorb so much water that it will cut your drying time in half.
